Conchord is a mixed chamber ensemble, recently formed by internationally recognised young performers, including principal players from the BBC Symphony, the Royal Opera House Orchestra, the Philharmonia and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. They play chamber music written for small mixed ensembles of wind, string, piano and voice, performing masterpieces rarely heard because of their unusual instrumental combination. With a line-up usually ranging from three to six artists, Conchord's repertoire spans the baroque to the contemporary, and everything in between.
Engagements have included concerts at the Schleswig-Holstein Festival and the Wigmore Hall, live appearances on Radio 3, and tours to France and North America, where their artistic chemistry, wit and theatrical approach to the music they play delighted their audiences. Recent other appearances include the City of London Festival, and regular concerts at London's Wigmore Hall.
Conchord's debut disc of French chamber music was released to high critical acclaim in 2002 by Sanctuary Classics' ASV label. Since then they have also recorded George Crumb's Voice of the Whale, and a CD single of Madeleine Dring's Trio, for Black Box. Their recordings have been featured on Radio 3 and Classic FM.
