CD REVIEW - Silhouettes (on Quartz)
"Practise has resulted in perfection for Mailley-Smith, one of our most promising young musicians......these recordings wonderfully display the range of his talents, from crossed-hands piano gymnastics to delicate, emotion-filled touches. Silhouettes includes the jazz-infused Sonata by British-born York Bowen, but Liszt’s ever-popular Hungarian Rhapsody steals the show."
Sunday Mercury, Birmingham
Fairfield Halls May 3 2005 "...this was a brilliant- in several senses – performance, commanding attention. Clearly we shall hear a good deal more of this most interesting young performer" Croydon Advertiser
Wigmore Hall March 21 2004 "A keen sense of anticipation pervaded the packed Wigmore hall before the recital given by the pianist Warren Mailley-Smith" Musical Opinion
High Wycombe April 23 2005 “Brilliant Young virtuoso Warren Mailley-Smith initiated the festival with an outstanding performance of Rachmaninov’s idiomatic and formidable Piano Concerto No 3 in D minor. He received a prolonged ovation and is someone of whom, I wager we shall hear more….. “ Bucks Free Press
St John's, Smith Square September 26 2003 Frank Bridge’s rarely heard Phantasm brought pianist Warren Mailley-Smith to the fore” Musical Opinion
St John's, Smith Square June 23 2003 ...a most musical artist. Two impressions by John Ireland...demonstrated this gifted pianist’s range and sympathies”
Wigmore Hall March 21 2004 "A keen sense of anticipation pervaded the packed Wigmore Hall before the recital given by the pianist Warren Mailley-Smith; and it became apparent as he unfolded the opening Allegro of Beethoven's C Major Sonata Opus 2 No 3, that this was no run-of-the-mill event. His playing displayed assurance, authority and individuality...spectacular virtuosity...bravura playing...technical accomplishment...an equal measure of expertise, control and a confident command of the idiom...A performance that matched the scale of the work... a powerful response"

Warren Mailley-Smith is one of the UK's outstanding young pianists and was recently proposed as a new Steinway Artist. His solo Wigmore Hall debut was given to critical acclaim before a capacity audience and he has been awarded several performances at the Southbank Centre, including in the ‘Fresh’ series and the Park Lane Group in the Purcell Room and he recently made his concerto debut at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.
Debut recitals at Birmingham Symphony Hall and St John's, Smith Square have also been enthusiastically received and he has been invited to perform for the Royal Family on more than thirty occasions. He was selected as a Making Music Concert Promoters' Network Artist for the 2006/7 season.
Following success as a postgraduate major prize-winner at both Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal College of Music, Warren continued his studies privately with Ronald Smith and currently studies with Peter Feuchtwanger.
A reputation as one of the country's leading solo pianists of his generation continues to grow with performances all over the UK during 2006-07 at festivals, music societies, universities and many of the country's leading concert venues. In recent months he has appeared with the Kensington Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of the Swan, London Concertante, London Strings, London Kensington Sinfonia, Corinthian Orchestra and the London Charity Orchestra performing concertos such as Rachmaninov Nos 2 and 3, Chopin No 2, Beethoven No 5 and Saint Saens No 2.
He has performed in the USA, Russia, China (Beijing International Piano Festival), Australia and throughout Europe and has been featured in interviews and performance slots on Classic FM and BBC Radio 3.
Warren was a musician on the Live Music Now! scheme and is currently seeking to launch his own national scheme for schools under the title “Imagine being a concert pianist”.
He will perform later this year for the first time with the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s Chamber Ensemble at the Brighton Festival and is looking forward to the release of his debut CD and a tour of China.
