| I am a great fan of Brazilian culture and music, and very often I visit that marvellous country.
This CD "Love Songs and Popular Songs by Claudio Santoro" is my latest discovery about it; and it will remain for ever in my memory since the first time I listened to this remarkable music.
The alternation between the Songs and the Preludes for piano solo with its "less is more" harmonic sofistication brings some aspects of the music of Tom Jobim but at the same time riches a step furder in relation to the music of Villa-Lobos.
Also, the way these two artist's interpretation match together make me think they have been made one to another.
I give "Five Stars"! |

| My first reaction to this was: how come the name of Claudio Santoro has completely failed to register on my listening radar?? The songs on the first part of this CD are absolutely exquisite. Hard to describe (although I guess you can listen to the samples on the site to get an idea) but they're somewhere between French songs in the Fauré/Debussy vein and the sultry sound world of South Americans like Piazzola. The only reason I give this a 4 (and not a 5) is because the short set of piano pieces at the end don't quite match up to the quality of the songs but, having said that, the songs do set a pretty high benchmark. Give it a go. |
